Genesis Alpha One places the player as the Captain of a Genesis starship, tasked with venturing into uncharted space to find a new home for humanity. The core gameplay involves exploring procedurally generated galaxies, harvesting resources, and constructing a self-sustaining space station. As the ship expands, players manage crew members, build various modules (such as greenhouses, refineries, and weapon factories), and research new technologies.
Combat and Exploration:
Players engage in first-person combat against alien infestations that can breach the ship or be encountered during planetary expeditions. A diverse arsenal of weapons and deployable turrets can be utilized. Exploration involves sending out expeditions to alien planets to gather rare resources and artifacts, risking encounters with hostile extraterrestrial life.
Roguelike Elements:
Each playthrough features a unique galaxy map, different alien threats, and varying resource availability. Death is permanent; however, a new Captain is cloned, inheriting some previously researched technologies and ship upgrades, providing a sense of persistent progression across runs. The ship's layout and crew are lost upon failure, prompting strategic decisions in subsequent attempts.
